I got lots of books and articals on Heathcliff and Wuthering Heights for my research project, so I'm having fun reading them even though many of them are not exactly related to my topic. the topic I am hoping to pursue has to do with Heathcliff's honesty; he was more likely to tell the truth than other characters, for example he told his wife Isabelle before he married her that he hated her and only wanted to marry her to steal her brother's inheritance and get revenge. And since I have to relate his to historical context I am going to try to relate it to dishonesty for the sake of politeness in the Victorian culture of the time when the book was written.
Then I met with the leader of the culture studies track, learned a bit about the track and about the course I am taking from her in the fall, and then I also met with the professor who teaches American lit 2 in the fall and he is very willing to let me audit, even if I dont have time to do all the readings. this surprised me because other people told me they thought it would be unlikely that any professors would let me audit. Glad I decided to go talk to him against their advise. I am really trying to listen to my advisers, but sometimes it doesn't hurt to also get a second...well...in this case a 4th...opinion on the matter
and now I am, having next year all settled in my mind, finally able to concentrate on doing my homework again.
